What is high potential and gifted education?

Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration

tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire

access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

In our classroom

At Edmondson Park High School we are dedicated to embedding Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) into everyday classroom practice. We believe that every student brings unique strengths and talents, and we are committed to identifying, supporting and extending high potential and gifted learners so they can flourish.

Every student will be challenged, inspired and empowered to achieve their personal best in an environment where excellence is recognised and nurtured.

· Our inclusive learning spaces will foster a strong sense of belonging while encouraging students to take risks, think creatively and collaborate with confidence.

· Learning experiences will provide choice, real-world relevance and rich opportunities for critical and creative thinking, including cross-curricular projects.

· When evidence indicates readiness for greater challenge, we will extend students and provide access to advanced learning pathways.

At Edmondson Park High School, we recognise the unique strengths and interests of every student and will provide flexible, diverse opportunities beyond the classroom to nurture their talents and support their continued growth.

· We will strive to offer a broad range of opportunities that allow students to explore their passions, extend their talents and connect with others beyond the classroom. These will include debating, STEM and coding clubs, academic competitions and critical thinking workshops.

· Students will have opportunities to participate in music ensembles, visual arts and drama showcases, as well as a wide range of sporting squads and performance-based movement groups.

· Leadership and personal growth will be supported through peer mentoring, Student Representative Council involvement and comprehensive wellbeing programs, alongside active participation in wellbeing initiatives.

At Edmondson Park High School, our students will have access to a wide range of opportunities designed to extend and enrich their potential. We will actively connect students with statewide programs that challenge and inspire them to achieve at high levels.

· High potential and gifted students will be supported through opportunities aligned with NSW Department of Education initiatives, ensuring access to specialised programs and pathways that foster excellence.

· We will also provide opportunities for students to participate in local, state and national competitions and events, enabling them to explore their interests, refine their talents and engage with learners beyond our school community. Through these experiences, students will be encouraged to pursue excellence and realise their full potential.
